What actually happens during a household move - and how to prepare for each stage.
The survey
- A mover assesses what's moving before quoting - this is what makes the quote accurate rather than a guess.
- Be specific about anything unusual: a piano, gym equipment, a large mirror, artwork - these change the packing plan.
Packing day
- Rooms are typically packed in order of least-used first, so daily life is disrupted as little as possible.
- Every carton gets labeled by room and, ideally, by rough contents.
Loading and transport
- Heavier, sturdier items are loaded first as the base of the load; fragile items go in last, on top.
- For local moves, transit is usually same-day. For intercity moves, expect a multi-day window depending on distance.
Delivery
- Unloading follows the reverse order, with furniture placed per your instructions in the new space.
- Do a final inventory check before the team leaves.
