Paperwork and address changes for your move
Which documents you need for the move itself - and who to tell about your new address.
For the move itself
- You don't need an e-way bill to move your own used household goods - 'used personal and household effects' are exempt under the GST e-way bill rules. Your mover should still give you a lorry receipt and inventory.
- Carry a photo ID and a copy of the lorry receipt, inventory list and quote/invoice with you, not in the truck.
- Ask your mover what transit insurance they offer and what value your goods are declared at.
Before you leave
- Take final meter readings (electricity, gas, water) with photos, and ask for your deposits back.
- Speak to your LPG distributor about transferring or closing your gas connection.
- Hand back keys and get your rental deposit settled in writing if you're renting.
Update your address
- Aadhaar (online), bank accounts, and your employer's HR records.
- Insurance policies, mobile/broadband, and any subscriptions or deliveries.

- Children's school transfer certificate, if you're changing schools.
