How to pack for a move that survives transit
Material-appropriate packing technique, room by room.
Fragile items
- Wrap individually before boxing - never let two fragile items touch directly.
- Fill empty space in the box completely; movement inside the box is what causes breakage, not the outside impact.
- Label the box on the top and at least one side, not just the top - sides stay visible when boxes are stacked.
Electronics
- Original boxes are ideal if you still have them - the packaging is engineered for the item.
- Photograph cable setups before disconnecting anything.
- Remove batteries from remotes and devices before packing.
Furniture
- Disassemble what can reasonably be disassembled - it protects the piece and makes loading faster.
- Keep hardware (screws, bolts, brackets) in a labeled bag taped to the matching piece.
- Wrap corners and legs separately from flat surfaces.
