Summer (April to June): start early
Ahmedabad summers are among the hottest in India, with afternoons often above 40°C in May. Heat is hard on the team and on items like candles, cosmetics, medicines and electronics left in a closed vehicle.
- Ask for an early-morning start so loading is done before the afternoon heat.
- Carry medicines, documents and electronics with you, not on the vehicle.
- Defrost and dry the fridge a day ahead.
Monsoon (roughly late June to September): protect against water
Rain is the main risk - wet cartons tear and wooden furniture can swell.
- Check the forecast and keep a backup date in mind.
- Ask for plastic or waterproof wrapping on sofas, mattresses and wooden furniture.
- Keep a dry area near the door at both homes for unloading.
Festival weeks: book well ahead
- Uttarayan (14-15 January): a big holiday in Ahmedabad - roads and terraces are busy and many people stay home, so moving on these days is harder.
- Navratri (nine nights, usually September or October): evening traffic around garba venues; plan daytime moves.
- Before Diwali (October or November): many families shift before the festival, so this is one of the busiest periods of the year.
Month-end and weekends
Rent agreements usually start and end with the month, so the last and first few days of a month - and weekends - are when most people want to move. A mid-month weekday is usually the easiest date to get.
The short version
- Easiest: a mid-month weekday, outside festival weeks, in the cooler months (roughly November to February, avoiding Uttarayan).
- If you must move in peak periods, book as early as you can and confirm the date in writing.
- Whatever the season, a confirmed item list and price before moving day matter more than the date.
